eurotrip.

southern france, as you will see in a few seconds, is beautiful. land of lavander, sunflowers, olive oil and everything else rustic. like i told ru, stuff of martha stewart magazines--my kinda thing. haha

funny how the world is divided--east and west. and further, north from south. and wherever it is, mostly the north is the more industrial, more developed and the south, laid back, provincial, and agrarian. i wonder if the north-south divide has to do with weather. in colder northern weather, there are only so many months of warm loungey weather. and if they sat on their butts all day enjoying the summers, they would have just frozen to death in the cold months. but the warmer south, blessed by luxurious weather all year round need never worry about such things.

every little city (more like village) in southern france has cafes. always pouring out onto some kind of plaza or square. and not just one or two, but like ten cafes for a population of maybe 100. so many people just sitting around chilling out--think holland v. that's the life isn't it? chilling and drinking some cafe au lait with a tart citron. they really do know how to enjoy life, these people of developed nations. when will we ever catch a scene of village people in rural thailand sipping thai coffee with their feet propped up at a coffeeshop?

perhaps this is what every nation is ultimately striving for--to eventually be able to just chill and drink coffee. democracy, economic success, development--all the trouble and struggle in the quest for, in the end, simply just time to sip that cuppa. maybe that's when we will all stop. when everyone has reached that coffee point. no one left to exploit, no one left to beat. just one big coffee-sipping world.
