the countdown begins!

in less than 24 hours i am out of this country and will be on my way back to sunny singapore, land of hot weather and good food and very skinny girls. (go south beach!)

i thought i was due to fly on thurs night until today a colleague of mine was looking at my vacation requests and was like hey, aren't you off on thurs? hmmm... so thank goodness for that moment otherwise i would have missed my flight, wasted a vaca-day and blown a coupla hundred to get on another flight. oh when will i grow up and be more responsible for my life!

10 days isn't really going to be enough- i have a lot planned, and a lot of soul-searching, life-finding to do.

too bad season 4 of 24 isn't out yet. i went to virgin this past weekend to check and it only comes out in dec. no surprises what i'll be getting myself for x'mas. or if anyone else is kind enough... hahaha. ooh jack bauer!

today we finally made the hike out of manhattan. we took the 7 train and got off at 74th st - roosevelt ave, queens. this was jackson heights, biggest/most concentrated indian community outside india (yeah i read somewhere). we walked along 74th st and nothing really new and exciting because it was a lot like little india back home.

with my trusty print out guides on hand we decided to go to an argentinian restaurant for lunch. in true latin style, the food took its time and lunch turned into dunch (dinner/lunch- or linner if you like. haha).

after the meal we walked down roosevelt ave (most diverse road in the world so i hear- representing 100 or so nationalities) felt like maybe we were in colombia or equador or any other latin american country for that matter. all the signs and ads were in spanish, there were roadside hawkers selling churros and arepas from stolen supermarket carts and no white people. tacos velos was the local fast food chain and lots of botanica misticas which hang and i can't figure out means what. only 20 mins from manhattan, but it was truly a world away.

we bought the yummy dulce de leche wafer sandwich (don't know the authentic name- but i will find out) and decided we wanted more so we bought the "party pack" to take home.

well, today's excursion cures a little bit of that wanderlust.

who has had surgery??

the best gym/treadmill reads are the trashy stuff. the trashier the better, like celebrity living and us weekly. i mean, what better motivation than seeing hilary duff shrink from a size i dunno, 8 to a size 0??!! and of course one is comforted because on the next page- "CELEBS-THEY HAVE CELLULITE TOO!" ooh! JUICY! walk walk walk, higher incline, faster too.
then everytime i read about jen aniston i stop wallowing in self-pity and think if she can do it, so can i! you go girl. wooh! hahahahahahah

so everyone, if you need a little mood booster, pick a tabloid magazine up today! at all mama shops near you.

jeremy you sneaky bastard you.

the un-makeshifting of apt 6e has begun

trekked through ikea today and made some fabulous purchases. we saved about $80 because we found our retro dining table and a dresser for hang at the clearance section so we were very pleased with our bargain hunting selves.

we went crazy buying frames and came home and created some instant art and now i feel very artistic and quite proud of ourselves. (wow, lots of ands)

i also painted my lousy plastic home depot table with our leftover primer and now it looks like a precious vintage flea market find. i love it. i am feeling quite fabulous today. i am domestic goddess!!

f-ck a moth just flew behind me and nearly made me pass out from fright thinking it might be the reneged cockroach. hope they both suffocate to death in our laundry cart of shoes.
ju- you blur block. 3 lbs is like 1.5 kg unfortunately for me. i wish it were 7 kg lah woman. i'd be giddy by now. crazy.

a mini cockroach ran across the floor while hang and i were watching melinda and melinda. i freaked out of course and hang was quite heroic to try and exterminate it with her new york times. but alas she was a bit too slow and the rotten crawly gave us the slip. eew. roaches creep me out more than anything else in the world and now i have shivers running up and down my spine and my hairs are standing on end. not even kidding.

so envious of ru and sarah. one moving to london the other rome. i am having severe wanderlust and all i can think about everyday is how to escape to different lands and experience the world. how how how.

the un-makeshifting of apt 6e

hang and i have decided we are going to stay here another year at least. so for that we are going to invest in some real furniture. despite our efforts, our cute abode has a rather makeshift feel to it because of the plastic tables and randomness of the furniture. no consistency (except it was all quite cheap).

so this weekend we will make our way to elizabeth for the terrible experience of ikea once again. (i say terrible because it's always crowded and the food hall is worse than a canteen- food and service). i'm eyeing this side table which costs only 29.99, which, amortized over the next year will cost about nothing. then we will pass on our home depot collapseable dining table to hang to use as part of her L shaped work area and purchase a retro-looking round dining table to take its place. can't wait.

3 pounds i've lost after phase one. way to go me!

deciding between going to the gym or working out to a dvd at home.

oh what an ugly dining room they've just made over on HGTV. why don't they hire ME!

think think think. what am i to do with my life. my wanderlust is growing by the day. maybe i can run an exotic travel agency.
